April, 2021
Dear HOS Members,
I have received the “Moderna” second shot and did not have any reactions to the vaccine.
I hope that all of you will soon be vaccinated and hopefully the State of California and the City of San Diego can go back to do things as we used to before the pandemic! Hang in there and be very careful for the next several months.
This month I want to congratulate one of our members, Julia San Roman for her progress in our community and her excellent painting work that she has done throughout the years. Congratulations Julia! Her is the link to the San Diego Union-Tribune article last month, and the link to her website.
Also, I am attaching an excellent article in Spanish, that other members of the HOS have sent me on historical facts titled “Twelve-historical myths, errors and lies about the Spanish Empire”.
As most of you are aware there have been quite a defamation movement towards the history of California by different groups, schools and organizations. The latest is San Diego Councilmember Joe LaCava that wants to remove symbols from the San Diego City Seal. See links below.

Councilman Calls for San Diego to Drop Cabrillo’s Ship, Spanish Mission from City Seal – Times of San Diego
To this new defamation, Councilman LaCava would be well advised to reflect upon the thoughts and actions of California’s newly elected governor in 1851.
In his apology for California’s genocidal treatment of Native Americans, Gov. Gavin Newsom focused attention on the state’s nearly forgotten first elected governor, Peter Hardeman Burnett, and his declaration in 1851 that Indians would be exterminated.
Additional information about the governor’s comments concerning the treatment of Native Americans, see:

I will keep you posted regarding the re-opening of House of Spain as soon as we hear from the City and HPR. Personally, I do not think that anything will happen until June or July of this year.
Please feel free to reach out to us at any time. contact@houseofspainsd.org
I sincerely thank you for your support and membership,
Stay healthy, Salud!
